A visit to the London Boat Show proved a positive start to the year this January. It was great to see the British Marine industry come together and show the world what it can offer. SVS spoke to several marinas at the show, all of whom said they regularly have visitors bringing pets with them, particularly on superyachts. Often people are surprised by the need for Superyacht Veterinary Service, but this feedback from marinas demonstrates what already SVS knows - that there is an ever growing demand for our support as taking your pets with you becomes the new normal.

The exclusive magazine, Riviera Insider included an amazing feature about Superyacht Veterinary Service in their Monaco edition. It is always exciting for us to talk about the work we do here at the SVS headquarters, and this was no different. I hope that the interview with Riviera Insider will encourage owners to bring their pets along when cruising – knowing that other people are doing it to, and the appropriate support exists for them at every point in their journey. It was published in both their English and German language publications, but if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, you can find the full article here.
We also did another little feature with Superyacht Content, as part of their blog covering the do’s and don’t of having pets on board, which you can read by clicking here.

New SVS Office

Still on the Isle of Wight, we have moved even closer to the heart of sailing – to Cowes Old Town itself. The new office is still a working progress but is it a positive change - just around the corner from Olensinski superyacht designers, multiple boat builders, splicers, riggers and of course, across the water from the Southampton docks, we are ideally placed to stay in touch with the rest of the superyacht industry. Please get in touch if you are local to us!

Twitter time

We added to our social media profile, and as well as Instagram we are now on twitter, so please follow us for pet travel updates, the best superyacht dog photos and the latest news from SVS. You can do it right now @superyachtvet!

From Boat Show to Vet Show

METS Trade in Amsterdam was the perfect chance to (briefly!) catch up with some familiar faces before racing back across the Channel to an entirely different kind of show...the London Vet Show, the annual event held at London's Olympia.

The Vet Show brought together international experts in an extensive program of lectures, discussions, case studies and demonstrations. Learning was helped by an endless supplies of tea and chocolate supplied by sponsors (a very successful technique)! Lectures aside, researchers into zoonotic diseases collected samples from the vet community to help protect the general public from any future outbreaks, and stall holders demonstrated the latest equipment, foods, drugs and supplements to us. It was a perfect opportunity to sample the best products on the market - some of them perfect for the superyacht pet, so watch this space for more information on the finest foods, toys and products out there.

Vets are lucky enough to have a job where they are constantly learning and developing new skills, and in order to keep up to date with the rapid advances in the world of veterinary medicine, we complete a certain number of hours of 'Continued Professional Development', or for short, CPD, each year. This is so important to SVS, and I love being right on the pulse of companion animal care and pet travel. The show was the ideal place to discuss the latest technology and meet with the experts in every field of veterinary medicine and surgery. As a superyacht vet, I am always thinking about exotic diseases (and their prevention), and a lecture by Dr Severine Tasker titled 'The well-travelled pet - diagnosis and prevention of exotic diseases in dogs and cats in the UK' was probably the show highlight. I look forward to passing on all the latest to my SVS clients. Roll on London Vet Show 2016!
